Juan Ximenes

I am a direct descendant of Juan Ximenes, a Texas veteran who fought at
the storming of Bexar in 1835. He is buried along with his wife at the San
Fernando Cemetery No. 1 under a Texas Historical Marker. He was born in
1810 to Juan Francisco Ximenes and Maria Mariana Losoya Musquiz. Following
the revolution, he was given a land grant for his homestead that is now
the present day Chapel of the Miracles on Ruiz Street. (His descendants,
distant cousins of mine, now run the chapel).

I have scanned his photo, a reproduction done long ago of an original that
was damaged and lost. He was married to Teodora de Jesus Rodriguez. They
were married in 1839, the license being issued by John W. Smith, a good
friend of Juan Ximenes.

They had several children including Isabel Ximenes. She married Juan
Hernandez Giraud and they are also buried at San Fernando No. 1. From this
marriage they also produced several children, including Martina Hernandez
who married Gabriel Madrid from Cuidad Juárez, Mexico. They lived in San
Antonio and produced seven children, one being my grandmother Maria Madrid
Delfin. Gabriel was active in various Mexican civic societies which were
popular in San Antonio in the late 1800s and early 1900s. My grandmother
worked for John Dielman Sr., the construction engineer who built the
present day San Fernando Cathedral along with architect François Girard.
