Charles Henry Warren Hines (Called Jessie) was a Trail Driver of Longhorn cattle back in the 1870’s he rode to Dodge City, Kansas and to Abilene, Kansas several times. He rode the Chizum Trail and went through places like Done’s crossing. He has a Journal with names of John Wheeler and David Wheeler, Robert S. Neighbors, others were Ira Poor, Cupples, Giraird, Huffmeyer and Pascall and many others. He was very much in love with my Grandma Louisa Tampke Hines, she lived in Wetmore with her parents a German Family. She had told my grandfather if he intended to marry her he would have to give up driving Longhorns up the trail, he gave it up and they married.
He was a man of Great Character, his word was his Bond. I never had the pleasure to know him as he died in 1912, I was born in 1930.
His name is in the Trail Driver’s Of Texas, his story is not there, he died before he had the chance to give his story. I understand he was 6 ft. 5 inches tall and very handsome.
Child #1 Alice Louisa Hines married Daniel Lloyd, Robert Lee Hines married Bonnie M. Seets, May D. Hines married Walter P. Young, Charles Henry Hines married Nova D. Wiley (this writer’s parents). Richard William Hines married Mary Murphy. Two young daughters died under one year of age.

The Richard Hines family lived next to the Davenport place or I should say across from Davenport Cemetery. Richard died 1864, Elmira died 1894 both buried in Selma? Where? I think on the old Schmid place? Any one know for sure?
This writer found about 50 old letters written by the Hines Family back to Al. where Martha raised her family, they were found in an old keepsake box in Pushmataha, Choctaw County, AL. where Martha lived. This is where I learned so much about my Hines Family, they are treasure’s, My Hines family were educated, they had wonderful vocabularies and could write very well. I could go on and on, if anyone wants to know more contact me at ladystone24@aol.com.
